When our consumers first use the smart door lock, they usually encounter assorted questions. For example, what if the smart door lock is out of power? Can the key tag be copied? Are there any safer unlocking methods? Don't worry. Philips EasyKey has prepared corresponding measures to deal with the above concerns.


1. Does a smart door lock require a mechanical key?


Compared with the fingerprint, key tag, PIN code and other unlocking methods, the mechanical key is mainly played as an emergency unlocking role for the smart door lock.


In daily use, the mechanical key can open the door without disturbing the circuit of the smart door lock and is affected by the aging of the smart door lock. Thus, if there occurs any emergency such as circuit failure and fire burnout, the mechanical key can come in handy.


Meanwhile, to avoid potential safety hazards, the Philips EasyKey R&D team specially adopts the design of hiding the mechanical keyhole. It is effective to prevent the thief from unlocking by the keyhole. Besides, it is also combined with the C-level lock cylinder to enhance the door lock security.


The mechanical key is so important that users are advised to keep them separately in the car, at their parents' home or some fixed place at their offices against a rainy day.

2. Can the key tag be copied?


Currently, the key tags of most of the smart door locks on the market adopt M1 cards (Mifare One). This kind of key tag has been widely used on the market. So, many reading technologies are specially designed for it, which can completely copy the key data. In this way, such an unencrypted key tag gradually becomes a loophole for some criminals to copy the key tag and unlock the door to steal.


Different from common IC cards, Philips EasyKey employs an intelligent dynamic encryption key tag. To improve the security, the chip has 17 built-in sectors, which is higher than the M1 card with only 16 sectors. Every time the key tag is used, the data in the key tag would be changed once. It is beneficial to prevent the key tag from being copied.


3. What if the smart door lock is out of power?


The concern “what if the smart door lock is out of power” often comes to mind when we consider buying the first smart door lock. That is because if we lose the key, we’ll have to worry about whether the smart door lock would be out of battery every day.


Don't need to worry about that. Philips EasyKey has considered the aspect of energy-saving on power consumption during production. Moreover, it is equipped with a low-voltage reminder function in daily use. When the voltage is lower than 4.5V, it would remind you to replace the battery and can be normally used for nearly one week. If you are a procrastinator and forget to replace the battery until the smart door lock runs out of power, the Philips EasyKey has prepared a Plan B for you. Under the bottom of the front escutcheon, we have designed a Micro USB interface. You can power up the door lock through this interface by using a 5V power bank. In addition, you can also use the mechanical key to unlock the door.
